After the incredible success of the new Firefox translation in Luganda, this session will bring together all interested people in the localisation process to Ugandan languages.

Agenda

  1. Status update on the Firefox translation
  2. Demo of Mobile Phone Dictionary application (developed at Makerere)
  3. Status update on available dictionaries in different languages (anyone?)
  4. How to build a Localisation Community?

We just had a first presentation of the Firefox Luganda translation by James Olweny, one of the project members of the Firefox translation team.

James told about the process of translating, about the tool use: Pootle

There seems to be a copyrighted dictionary around that they were allowed to use.

The next application people would like to translate: [OpenOffice]

Questions were asked about who owns the translation, what the costs were (8000USD for the expats, 8M UGX for the lunch during the 2 days of translating)
